چکیده

Using a simple thermo-hydrodynamic model that respects relativistic causality, we revisit the analysis of qualitative features of acoustic oscillations in the photon-baryon fluid. The growing photon mean free path introduces transient effects that can be modelled by the causal generalization of relativistic Navier-Stokes-Fourier theory. Causal thermodynamics provides a more satisfactory hydrodynamic approximation to kinetic theory than the quasi-stationary (and non-causal) approximations arising from standard thermodynamics or from expanding the photon distribution to first order in the Thomson scattering time. The causal approach introduces small corrections to the dispersion relation obtained in quasi-stationary treatments. A dissipative contribution to the speed of sound slightly increases the frequency of the oscillations. The diffusion damping scale is slightly increased by the causal corrections. Thus quasi-stationary approximations tend to over-estimate the spacing and under-estimate the damping of acoustic peaks. In our simple model, the fractional corrections at decoupling are ∼ 10 .

Acoustic-Mean Flow Interaction in Solid Propellant Rocket Motors

There are several sources for pressure oscillations in solid propellant rocket motors. Oscillatory flow field is one of them. Free shear layers in motor flow field cause vortex shedding. End edges of propellant grains and baffle edge in two-segmented motors are samples of such zones. These vortices move from their forming points and strike the field walls. The kinetic energy of vortices change ...

نوسانات آزاد زمین

This work is a study of the Earths free oscillations considering a merge of solid and liquid model. At the turn of 19th century Geophysicists presented the theory of the free oscillations for a self-gravitating, isotropic and compressible sphere. Assuming a steel structure for an Earth size sphere, they predicted a period of oscillation of about 1 hour. About 50 years later, the free oscillat...

Monitoring Acoustic Bubble Oscillations with an Optofluidic Interferometer

A system integrating a trapped bubble with an optofluidic interferometer is introduced. This system allows rapid analysis of the oscillatory characteristics of the bubble when it is excited by an acoustic wave. Such a system shows promise in studying the physics of these oscillations specifically the effects of surface tension and viscosity.

Time Domain Simulation of Sound Waves Using Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics Algorithm with Artificial Viscosity

Smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH), as a Lagrangian, meshfree method, is supposed to be useful in solving acoustic problems, such as combustion noise, bubble acoustics, etc., and has been gradually used in sound wave computation. However, unphysical oscillations in the sound wave simulation cannot be ignored. In this paper, an artificial viscosity term is added into the standard SPH algorith...

THERMAL AND MECHANICAL DAMPING OF SOLAR p-MODES

Nonadiabatic effects associated with the transfer of energy and with turbulent stresses add small imaginary parts, wji> and w~2>, to solar p-mode eigenfrequencies. Numerical calculations have shown that these quite different processes make comparable contributions to W; at frequencies well below the acoustic cutoff at wac· We derive analytic expressions which reveal the connection between w~ 1 ...
